Connecting Communities Through the Arts

The Southern Avalon Performance Series

Our dedication to sharing the historical legacies of the region through the arts and events has been a big part of our work.

Telling Our Stories

Whether it's Evelyn Jess's song "Trepassey in June", or Lorne Warr's documentary "Amelia Earhart; A Woman in Pants", ECHO has always loved supporting the artists who help get our culture and heritage out to the world.

ECHO celebrated the artists in our province when we put on the Southern Avalon Performance Series in 2022 for Come Home Year. It was a nine part series that featured film, music, storytelling, and theatre, which included a play called "Area of Uncertainty" written by Bernice Morgan about Amelia's 1928 adventure out of Trepassey.

The series moved throughout the communities on the Southern Avalon, with the support of the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador via a Come Home Year Grant.

SAPS continued into 2023, and will so again into 2025, as we offer up more music, stories, films, and photography events to showcase our artists, both young and old(er), along the communities found on the Southern Avalon.

We deeply value partnerships, and this event consistently brings together community groups, recreation committees, and local businesses who are eager to collaborate, which perfectly aligns with our core values of community engagement, cooperation, and shared growth.

With Support

We started our journey with the support of the Department of Tourism Culture Arts and Recreation in 2022 when they awarded us a Come Home Year grant that started this artistic initiative.

So in 2024 we we're thrilled to receive an Arts NL Community Presenters grant, which is a highly competitive process, that allowed us to continue presenting our arts showcase, while also continuing to build our regional relationships.
